I support the Opposition’s plan to electrify Adelaide’s rail network. When the Liberals formally announce their policy they should take the next logical step and commit to extending the railway to Adelaide’s southern suburbs.
South Road, Marion Road and Morphett Road all run through my electorate. They are already congested. Increasing housing growth is only going to make it worse.
Extending the line south can be planned concurrently with the electrification of Adelaide’s rail.
This will allow medium density development to be planned by Council in association with increased public transport availability.

An Adelaide filmmaker selling calendars to raise money for her documentary about Tibet was banned from Adelaide’s Rundle Street Sunday Markets for being “too political”.
Adelaide City Council confirmed that the ban on political material at its Sunday Markets came about after it received complaints about a stall I set up last year. My stall featured information about the plight of Palestinians under Israeli occupation.
If people are willing to pay for a stall at the Markets, and they have material that is not inherently offensive, then they should not be banned. If their message offends some people, so what? They can set up a stall the next week with the other point of view and let people make up their own minds. Isn’t that what democracy is about?

I along with many others have been speaking up for many years for fair and humane treatment for David Hicks. I was honoured to be thanked among others upon David’s release from Yatala Prison. I have always said that it is not just about David Hicks, it is not just about Guantanamo Bay; the problem is: what Guantanamo Bay stands for.
I’m going to answer the question “why we in Adelaide should be concerned about it” by reference to something that I learnt about as a lawyer. It is called the Rule of Law; actually everyone knows what it is, even if they don’t know what lawyers call it. It means that law should be made by parliament then applied by the courts and administered by the police. The point is that the fate of people’s lives should not be left in the hands of politicians and it means that the law should apply equally to people rich and poor, no matter what their beliefs or prejudices.
