At the moment in South Australia, supermarkets and shops throw out unwanted food rather than donating it to charities. Each night perfectly safe food is removed from supermarket shelves and dumped in locked bins at the rear of shopping centres. The reason is that shops and supermarkets are liable if they donated the food to charity and the receiver suffered harm from eating that food. Even some charities are worried that changing this law could lead to unsafe food being dumped on them. Now the SA Government is proposing changing the law to give immunity to donors of food if that food is safe to eat. What do you think?
